Handling fees for professional fulfillment (pick & pack, excluding shipping costs) in Germany typically range from €1.90 to €8.00 per parcel - depending on parcel size, order volume and special requirements. Rough benchmarks: parcels under 1 kg around €1.90-2.50, medium parcels (1-5 kg) €2.60-3.80, larger parcels (5-15 kg) €4.20-6.00. Storage costs approx. €15-26 per pallet/month, returns processing €3.20-4.80 per parcel. Shipping costs (DHL, DPD etc.) are added separately. At this volume, the costs of self-managed warehouse space, own packaging materials and time invested typically exceed the fees of a professional fulfillment provider - especially when you factor in the time saved. A fulfillment switch typically takes 4-8 weeks in practice: contract negotiation and onboarding (1-2 weeks), goods receipt and storage at the new provider (1-2 weeks), test run and shop integration (1-2 weeks), full migration (a further 1-2 weeks). Running both warehouses in parallel during the transition incurs additional costs - this should be accounted for in the contract. With a good partner and proper preparation, faster switches in 2-3 weeks are also possible.

Best suited are standardised, storable products with consistent demand: fashion and accessories, cosmetics and beauty products, supplements, household goods, books and small electronics. Challenging but feasible with specialist providers: food and chilled goods (temperature control required), hazardous materials (ADR certification), high-value and insurable goods, and bulky items over 30 kg. Products with highly variable demand (strong seasonal business) can be handled well if the contract allows flexible storage adjustments.
